When a judge grants a petition to seal your record under A.R.S. § 13-911, the records of your arrest, conviction, and sentence are removed from public view.
- Employers: In most cases, you can legally answer “No” when asked if you have been arrested or convicted of a crime.
- Landlords: Background checks run by apartment complexes will generally come back clean regarding that offense.
- Public Access: Your mugshot, arrest, and case details disappear from public court websites.
Am I Eligible for record sealing in 2026?
Eligibility depends on the severity of the offense and how much time has passed since you completed your sentence (excluding monetary conditions).
The Waiting Periods:
- Class 2 & 3 Misdemeanors: 2 years
- Class 1 Misdemeanors: 3 years
- Class 4, 5, & 6 Felonies: 5 years
- Class 2 & 3 Felonies: 10 years
Note: Serious violent offenses, crimes against children, and certain sex offenses are typically not eligible for sealing.
