I wanted to talk to you about a new website that has police presence and that website is known as Tagged. Tagged is a website that individuals might go to to find relationships, either friendly relationships or romantic relationships. Now what you need to be aware of is that law enforcement is on this website and they are monitoring those individuals who are on that website who might be looking for underage individuals to have sexual relationships with.
Now, even though this particular website requires that individuals state that they are 18 years or older, you might find yourself talking to a decoy officer who is posing as an underage individual. Now, just because they may post a picture that looks like they are over the age of 18, and just because they state initially that they’re over age 18, they may later tell you that they are 14 or 15 years old. You may end up getting entrapped into communicating with these individuals and eventually you may end up meeting these individuals.
If you do and they are law enforcement, you will be charged. Some of the charges that you could receive are either prostitution of a minor or luring of a minor. It’s very important that if you are on this website or any other dating website that you be hypersensitive about the information that you are receiving. It’s not enough just to say that the individual told me that they were 18 years old or that they posted on their picture that they were 18 years old or older. If they later tell you that they are 15, 16 years old, or anything under the age of 18, and you are an adult, you may end up in a situation where you are receiving felony charges.
The best advice I can give you, again, is to be hypersensitive about the information that they tell you. You may even want to check the individual’s driver’s license or their identification to ensure that the person that you are communicating with is in fact over the age of 18.
